I’ve lived in Parkmerced since 1988! It has always been a nice quiet residential community. However, in the last year we have noticed an unacceptable increase in crime here.
My neighbors have complained about car thefts, burglary, vandalism and other offenses. I had my car stolen in March. Luckily the police returned it in a few days.
In May its tires were slashed, The car was stolen again in June. Now I have no car. Parkmerced claims no responsibility, but has paid for some increased police patrols. But this did not prevent my car from being vandalized and stolen.
Parkmerced has an army of paid staff working on and maintaining ongoing cosmetic gardening projects and trimming hedges. However, they can’t seem to find the resources to hire a couple extra personnel to patrol at night and secure our not-so-large neighborhood. This seems to be a case of misplaced priorities on the part of Parkmerced.
Public safety and security should always come before aesthetics, especially during these difficult and uncertain times. The police are doing what they can, but we need more from Parkmerced.
Respectfully, Arnold Trogman
