The two homes and the gas station on the corner of Second Avenue and Balboa Street have all been demolished for apartment buildings. In 1951, the basement of 26 Balboa St., center, housed the Helene Hardin Theatrical Talent Agency.
This is the view looking north on a partially developed 45th Avenue, between Balboa and Anza streets, in June 1922. Houses on the east side of the 600 block of 45th Avenue are some of the oldest in the neighborhood and they still stand.
“A ‘love street’ can be anywhere,” explained Graciela Ronconi, a 30-year-plus resident of the Richmond District and founder of the neighborhood newcomer, Love Street Vintage.
The Balboa Street corridor features a variety of restaurants offering take-out and delivery, as well as parklets for eating outside. In addition, specialty shops and cafes abound.
