Commemorative street signs will soon mark the site of historic Polytechnic High School (1894-1972). The public unveiling will be Saturday, Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at the southeast corner of Frederick and Willard streets in San Francisco.
Polytechnic was the City’s acknowledged 20th century sports powerhouse, with distinguished academic, vocational and arts programs. Fifty years after its last graduating class, an active nonprofit alumni association still connects thousands of surviving alumni, welcomes many for a yearly luncheon meeting and grants scholarships.
The Polytechnic Way street sign unveiling will feature District 8 Supervisor Raphael Mandelman, his liaison Ross Green, staff of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, along with Polytechnic Alumni Association members – all instrumental in arranging the tribute. We will also be joined by other San Francisco organizations such as the Western Neighborhood Project, also known as Outside Lands.
