Press Release: L-Bus Route Service Changes

ress

In response to changing trip patterns and subway improvements, service changes are scheduled for July 9 for the L Bus. The L Bus route will be shortened to run between the San Francisco Zoo and West Portal Station, with increased frequency of trips.

With more subway reliability after extensive repairs and maintenance, many L Bus riders are choosing to transfer to the subway at West Portal for a faster ride to downtown. Our data shows that most riders from the Sunset are transferring at West Portal Station to and from the L Bus to complete their trips to and from downtown. Shortening the L Bus route allows the SFMTA to increase frequency on the outer segment of the route to reduce crowding and wait times. We are increasing the frequency of L Bus service from every 10 minutes to 8 minutes on weekdays, and every 10 minutes instead of 12 minutes on weekends.

To help improve the transfer at West Portal Station, we have increased capacity of the subway by introducing the S Shuttle to run on weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. The S Shuttle runs every 10 minutes. L Bus riders can take the S Shuttle to continue their trips to and from downtown.

We understand that this route change can be an adjustment for L Bus customers. Once implemented, we will monitor this change both through customer feedback and ridership data in the coming months and if service adjustments are needed, we will re-evaluate.

Additional changes to Muni are also being implemented on July 9. Stay updated with our a blog about the service changes, with the most recent updates about service changes.
