Police Blotter: Sunset District

Outstanding Warrant: 46th Avenue and Taraval Street, March 1, 11:23 a.m. 

Officers responded to a report of a suspect who was acting erratically in the middle of the street and harassing people. 

They located and recognized the suspect, who has a history of police contact and incidents. After further investigation, it was revealed that the suspect also had an arrest warrant. 

The suspect was arrested.

Shooting at a Building: 1800 Block of 33rd Avenue, March 3, 8 p.m.

The victim reported that they had found damage to the glass of a metal gate, as well as what appeared to be bullet fragments. 

The victim said the incident may be related to when they had a vehicle towed for blocking the driveway several months ago.

Assault: 24th Avenue and Taraval Street, March 5, 11:36 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of an assault. 

Responding officers located the victim, who had lacerations and cuts. The witness, a bartender, said the victim and suspect had been involved in a verbal altercation before the suspect walked away from the victim.

It was later determined that the suspect was a family member of the victim. 

Robbery: 19th Avenue and Taraval Street, March 6, 3:43 p.m. 

Officers responded to a report of a robbery. 

The suspect reported that there had been ongoing issues with the victim stealing cans from the recycling bin. 

The victim responded that he was collecting cans when the suspect suddenly grabbed him by his shirt and pushed him onto the ground before taking the victim’s cart and hiding it. 

After further investigation, the suspect was arrested.

Disturbing the Peace: 3100 Block of Quintara Street, March 7, 2:01 a.m. 

Officers responded to a report of a loud party. 

The neighbors said the residence had a history of parties and noise complaints. 

Responding officers contacted the occupants of the residence and investigated the incident. 

Battery: Eighth Avenue and Irving Street, March 8, 8:39 p.m.

The victim reported that she was using an electric scooter on the sidewalk to avoid traffic. However, as the victim attempted to pass two suspects on the sidewalk, they told the victim to ride the scooter on the street instead. 

One suspect then pushed the victim, causing her to hit a nearby pole. Both suspects then walked away. 

Battery: 21st Avenue and Irving Street, March 10, 7:57 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a battery. 

The victim reported that he walked into a store but did not make a purchase before walking back out. 

The victim said the suspect suddenly approached him and accused him of stealing. The victim denied the accusation and attempted to walk away. 

The victim said the suspect then pushed him from behind and placed his knees against the victim’s back before getting off the victim and walking away. 

Attempted Auto Theft: 25th Avenue and Lawton Street, March 12, 2:08 a.m.

The victim reported that they heard suspicious noises outside. When they went to investigate, they observed the suspect breaking into their vehicle and driving away with it. 

Responding officers located the stolen vehicle, which was abandoned. 

Burglary: 1200 Block of La Playa Street, March 12, 8:50 p.m.

The victim alerted police after receiving motion notifications at a building that was under construction. The victim also contacted a neighbor to check on the property. 

The neighbor confirmed that the suspect was observed rummaging through the victim’s property. 

Responding officers located the suspect and after further investigation, the suspect was arrested. 

Violation of Restraining Order: 1300 Block of Wawona Street, March 14, 12:07 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a suspect who was violating a restraining order. The victim said that the suspect also had a previous history of violating the same order. 

Responding officers located the suspect and, after further information and confirmation by the victim, the suspect was arrested. 

Stolen Vehicle, Traffic Collision, Outstanding Warrant: Irving Street and 19th Avenue, March 15, 1:55 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a traffic collision with injuries. 

Responding officers investigated the incident. A computer check revealed that one of the vehicles involved had been reported as missing. The suspect, the driver of the stolen vehicle, also had an arrest warrant. 

The suspect claimed that he borrowed the vehicle from his neighbor. After further investigation, the suspect was arrested.

Battery, Breaking Windows: 2100 Block of Irving Street, March 16, 6:32 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a battery and a broken window. The victim said he had been involved in an argument with the suspect. 

During the argument, the victim said that he was pushed by the suspect and fell against a window which caused it to shatter. The victim then refused to provide further information regarding the incident. 

A security video of the area was later secured.  

Brandishing a Weapon: Noriega Street and 30th Avenue, March 18, 6:16 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a person with a gun. 

The victim reported that he was driving a rental car when the suspect’s vehicle passed him, and the victim honked his horn at the suspect. The suspect stopped his vehicle and the victim attempted to drive around the suspect. 

However, as the victim passed the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect rolled down a window and pointed a gun at the victim. 

The victim then drove away from the suspect.

Robbery of a Residence: 1300 Block of 24th Avenue, March 21, 11:12 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery at a residence. 

The victim reported that when he returned home, he discovered that his gate was damaged. The victim entered his house and was confronted by three suspects who then searched the victim’s pockets. The suspects exited the house with the victim’s stolen property and fled the area. 

The victim said one of the suspects held a gun and pointed it at him during the incident. 

The victim was not harmed.

Robbery of Residence: 1300 Block of 45th Avenue, March 21, 12:42 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery at a residence. 

The victims stated that they heard a loud noise from outside right before three suspects holding guns entered their home. The victims were instructed to sit on their couches while the suspects searched the house. 

Afterward, the suspects exited the house with the victims’ property and fled the area in a vehicle. The victims were not harmed.

Robbery: 800 Block of Noriega Street, March 21, 9:09 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery. 

The victims reported that they had just arrived home when a vehicle pulled up next to them and two suspects immediately exited the vehicle. 

The suspects pointed a firearm at the victims and demanded the victims’ property. The victims fearfully gave away the keys to their house and car. A suspect also forcibly pulled a purse away from one of the victims, which caused her to fall. 

The suspects then fled the area in the victims’ vehicle with the stolen property.

Outstanding Warrant: 2600 Block of 23rd Avenue, March 25, 1:13 p.m.

Officers from the Taraval Neighborhood Team received information regarding the location of a suspect with an arrest warrant. 

The officers located the suspect and arrested him.  

Robbery: 1900 Block of Irving Street, March 25, 1:51 p.m.

The victim stated that she had just finished lunch and was sitting in her vehicle when the suspect suddenly opened the vehicle’s door and pointed a gun at her. 

The victim attempted to resist the suspect stealing her purse, but the suspect hit the victim and used a knife to cut the purse free. 

The suspect then immediately fled the area with the stolen property. 

Battery, Vandalism to a Vehicle: 20th Avenue and Judah Street, March 25, 6:12 p.m.

Two parties stated that the other party was the instigator during an incident of road rage and both parties wanted to press charges against the other party. 

After further investigation, both parties were cited.

Battery: Sunset Boulevard and Vicente Street, March 25, 7:27 p.m.

The victim reported that he was involved in an incident of road rage. 

The victim said the suspect pulled up next to him and spat at him before driving away.  

Detention: 15th Avenue and Vicente Street, March 26, 10:16 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a suspect who was yelling, screaming and shoving shopping carts over. 

Responding officers located the suspect, who was observed breaking a piece of wood into a stick and boarding an occupied Muni bus with it. 

The officers attempted to talk the suspect into dropping the stick, but the suspect refused. The officers deployed pepper spray and detained the suspect without further incident. 

The suspect was then transferred to a nearby hospital for a mental evaluation.

Traffic Collision, Assault: Ulloa Street and 19th Avenue, March 29, 2:16 p.m. 

The victim reported that he was stopped at a traffic light when the suspect, using his vehicle, hit the victim’s vehicle three times before driving away. 

Responding officers located the suspect and after further investigation, the suspect was arrested.
