Police Blotter: Sunset District

Possible Explosive Device: 2000 Block of Great Highway, Jan. 3, 5:16 p.m.

A witness arrived at Taraval Station to report a suspicious object, which the witness believed to be a pipe bomb. 

He said that he was backing up his vehicle when he suddenly heard an explosion and observed a lot of smoke. The witness located an object believed to be responsible for the incident and brought it to the station for further investigation.   

Theft from a Locked Vehicle, Vandalism, Evading a Police Officer: 29th Avenue and Lawton Street,  Jan. 4, 1:02 a.m.

Officers were on patrol when they observed an auto burglary in progress. 

The officers attempted to detain and arrest the suspects, but the suspects immediately entered their vehicle and fled at a high and unsafe rate of speed.  

Assault: 1300 Block of 47th Avenue, Jan. 5, 8:01 p.m.

Officers responded to a fight between two roommates. 

The victim reported that during their argument, the suspect hit him on the head with a glass bottle which resulted in a laceration.  

Robbery: 3000 Block of Vicente Street, Jan. 5, 8:56 p.m.

A victim said that he was walking and stopped to chat with a man, who was sitting outside of a building with two dogs. Shortly afterward, the victim said that he believed he smelled drugs emanating from the building and started to walk away. 

The victim then noticed that the suspect had walked out of the building and started following him in a vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle and approached the victim with a knife before demanding the victim’s property. 

The suspect then left the area. 

Driving Without a  License, Traffic Violation: 19th Avenue and Ulloa Street, Jan. 9, 4:46 p.m.

Officers were on patrol when they observed a vehicle failing to slow down or stop at a red light. 

The officers conducted a traffic stop. A computer check revealed the driver had never been issued a driver’s license. 

The driver was cited.

Battery: 1200 Block of 20th Avenue, Jan. 10, 2:41 p.m.

The victim reported that he was asleep and woke up to someone punching him. 

The victim said the suspect took the victim’s backpack and threw it out onto the street. 

Responding officers located the suspect and detained him. 

The victim declined to press charges. 

Assault: 2100 Block of Irving Street, Jan. 10, 8:31 a.m.

The victim reported that the suspect was walking toward his location while holding a metal rod. 

The suspect then swung the rod and hit the victim with it before immediately fleeing the area. 

After further investigation, it was determined that the suspect had also shoplifted at a nearby store. 

Suspected Theft, Trespassing: 300 Block of Noriega Street, Jan. 11, 5:48 p.m.

The victim reported that the suspect was observed trespassing in the victim’s back yard. 

The suspect then took an item from the victim’s backyard table, threatened the victim to remain silent about the incident and walked away.

Battery: 1800 Block of Irving Street, Jan. 12, 5:02 p.m.

The victim reported that he was parked and inside his vehicle when the suspect drove by dangerously close to him. 

The victim honked his horn multiple times to alert the suspect. The suspect responded by exiting his vehicle and hitting the victim’s face through an open window. 

The suspect then drove away.  

Narcotics Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamine: 1900 Block of Irving Street, Jan. 13, 11:14 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a person with a knife. 

The witness stated that the suspect and the victim had been involved in a heated argument before the victim left the area. 

Officers located the suspect and a search revealed methamphetamine and a glass pipe in his possession. 

The suspect was cited.

Battery: Great Highway and Rivera Street, Jan. 14, 8:11 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a battery. 

The victim reported that he was riding his bicycle and had stopped at a crosswalk when the suspect, who was nearby, told him to not hit his dog. An argument ensued and the suspect pushed the victim off his bicycle while claiming that the victim had aimed to hit his dog with the bicycle. 

The suspect then walked away from the victim. 

Assault with a Gun: Judah Street and 46th Avenue, Jan. 14, 9:04 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a victim who had been shot with a gun. 

The victim stated that he and a friend had traveled from Oakland to eat in San Francisco. The victim said that he was shot with a gun after he parked and exited his vehicle. 

The victim was unable to provide further details or information about the location of the incident other that it had occurred in San Francisco.
