Slain Taraval Police Officer Honored

A celebration of life will be held in the community meeting room at the Taraval Police Station on Dec. 22 to honor Officer Bryan Dennis Tuvera, who was killed in the line of duty in the Sunset District 15 years ago.

Tuvera and his partner were pursuing an escaped convict who approached a residence at 25th Avenue and Lawton Street. The gunman, who was considered “armed and dangerous,” kicked open a garage door and entered the premises. Tuvera was struck by a bullet when he entered the garage He passed away the next morning. The assailant committed suicide after Tuvera’s partner returned gunfire. 

Tuvera served in the SF Police Department for four-and-a-half years. A plaque at Taraval Station honors his ultimate sacrifice for the people of San Francisco.
