Police Blotter: Sunset District

Vandalism to Vehicle: 1800 Block of Irving Street, Aug. 3, 2:39 p.m.

The victim, a Department of Parking and Traffic officer, reported that he was in the process of citing a vehicle that was doubled parked and had caused a backup in traffic when the suspect appeared and punched the victim’s window and caused it to shatter. The suspect then threatened to harm the victim before leaving the scene

Assault: 2500 Block of Ocean Avenue, Aug. 5, 9:48 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of an assault. The victim, a store employee, reported that the suspect had been acting suspiciously and believed that the suspect was shoplifting. 

The victim then exited the store to call the police. The suspect followed the victim and started yelling at her and attempting to punch her before walking away.

Arson of a Vehicle: Kirkham Street and Great Highway, Aug. 6, 3:58 a.m.

The witness reported that he observed two subjects who were arguing before one of the subjects left the area in a vehicle. Minutes later, the subject and vehicle returned and parked in the same location. 

Soon after, the vehicle was on fire which caused damage to the vehicles that were next to it.   

Burglary, Outstanding Warrant: 1700 Block of  Noriega Street, Aug. 6, 10:22 a.m.

When officers responded to a report of shoplifting, they recognized the description of the suspect due to previous shoplifting incidents. 

The officers located the suspect and a search revealed stolen property in his possession. 

A computer check also revealed an arrest warrant and four shoplifting cases that were open. 

The suspect was arrested. 

Assault with a Gun, Outstanding Warrant: 4000 Block of  Irving Street, Aug. 10, 10:46 a.m.

The witness reported that the suspect and victim were observed walking side by side and appeared to be arguing. 

A short time later, the suspect was observed pointing a gun at the victim for a few seconds before putting it out of sight again. The witness stated that the suspect and victim hugged each other afterwards. 

Responding officers located the suspect and a search revealed a firearm in the suspect’s possession. The victim refused to press charges. 

After further investigation, it was determined that the suspect may have been involved in a traffic collision on 47th Avenue before fleeing from the scene. 

The suspect was arrested.

Shoplifting with Force, Brandishing a Weapon, Outstanding Warrant: 700 Block of Taraval Street, Aug. 13, 9:29 p.m. 

Officers responded to a report of an incident of shoplifting. 

The victim, a security employee, reported that the suspect was observed walking suspiciously and rapidly out of the store. The security guard attempted to follow the suspect. The suspect responded by brandishing a knife at the victim. 

The officers detained the suspect. A search revealed stolen merchandise in the suspect’s possession. 

After further investigation, the suspect was arrested.  

Vehicle Burglary, Outstanding Warrant: 2500 Block of 21st Avenue, Aug. 14, 6:17 a.m.

The victim reported that the suspect was observed inside the victim’s vehicle and followed the suspect. 

Responding officers arrived and detained the suspect. 

A search revealed stolen property from multiple victims in the suspect’s possession. 

After further investigation, the suspect was arrested. 

Outstanding Warrant: 600 Block of Judah Street, Aug. 14, 11:37 a.m.

Officers responded to a report that a parolee was in the area and being monitored by GPS. The officers located the suspect and arrested him.  

Battery: 19th Avenue and Irving Street, Aug. 18, 9:36 a.m.

The victim reported that she had been walking when the suspect suddenly approached and slapped her once on the back of her head. The suspect then walked away.

Robbery of a Residence: 1900 Block of 45th Avenue, Aug. 18, 10:40 p.m.

The victim reported that she had hired a moving company to move her belongings and was putting items away when the suspect entered her home and pointed a gun at her before demanding money. 

The victim gave the suspect her property and the suspect immediately fled the area. 

Violation of a Stay-Away Order, Outstanding Warrant: 3600 Block of  Taraval Street, Aug. 19, 7:40 p.m.

Officers responded to the location of a suspect who was violating a court stay-away order and placed the suspect in handcuffs without issues. 

However, once at the County Jail, the suspect refused to comply with lawful orders during transport and resisted having handcuffs placed back on after being processed for jail.  

Burglary, Outstanding Warrant: 1200 Block of 48th Avenue, Aug. 22, 4:22 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a suspect who was breaking into a house. 

Officers arrived at the location and observed the suspect exiting the house. The suspect was detained.

The victims reported that they heard suspicious noises from the area at the front gate and stated that items were missing. 

A computer check on the suspect revealed that he was on probation. 

After further investigation, the suspect was arrested.

Battery: Ninth Avenue and Irving Street, Aug. 25, 3:09 p.m.

The victim reported that she had been sitting in an empty seat on a Muni vehicle, which was next to where the suspect was standing, when she suddenly felt pressure applied to her nose. The suspect then began yelling at her. 

The victim reported the incident to the Muni driver, who ordered everyone off the bus. 

The suspect then attempted to gain entry to the vehicle again and forced the door to open, which caused it to hit the victim. 

The suspect then walked away.
