As a long time resident of the Inner Sunset, I think it would be great if we had tables once a year or so where we were able to give away or sell our spare items.

But this should NOT be a commercial venture, and this should NOT be blocking traffic flow on a Sunday.

Unfortunately, the taxpayer-subsidized Inner Sunset “flea” was introduced without any community discussion whatsoever, and it includes tables promoting banks, etc. and even a distasteful and polluting food truck or two.

All so one woman can make a profit from our public streets. (Traffic is already congested, and this makes it even worse!)

Last time I checked, it takes $50 or more for someone to have a table on Irving Street. You would have to sell a LOT of garage-sale items before this would pay off. Outrageous!

Some years ago the Bluebloods in the ISPN (who plan bad changes for the Inner Sunset behind peoples’ backs) tried to close down Irving permanently.

Restaurants and a bar have succeeded in permanently appropriating needed parking spaces for their own uses on this stretch. Now, the ISPN has its closure one Sunday a month.

But the way it was implemented and is run is both completely undemocratic and for the benefit of a few insiders.

  It’s one day a month! One street! Surely there’s other streets. Respectfully, I encourage you to consider how cars have taken over our streets and compressed our communities. Go out and see for yourself how well-attended events like this are. This isn’t for the benefit of a few insiders. It’s a place for the Richmond community to gather 🙂
