From Zion Lutheran Church and School:
Jerry Metzger, development director for Lutheran Social Services of Northern California, received a gift of $1,300 on June 20. The money was raised as a challenge to members and friends of Zion Lutheran Church to walk 2,000 miles for which the church would donate $1,000. An additional $300 was raised in monetary donations. Walkers received “Live Generously” T-shirts from Thrivent, a member-owned financial services company that supports local volunteer Action Teams through seed funding.
The mission of Lutheran Social Services is to help people overcome some of life’s most difficult obstacles such as homelessness, mental illness, drug addiction or disaster. The programs at Lutheran Social Services of Northern California serve more than 2,600 clients in Sacramento, San Francisco and Contra Costa County.
