Police Blotter: Sunset District

Threats: 1600 Block of Rivera Street, Jan. 20, 7:41 p.m.

The victim arrived at Taraval Station to report that he and his friends had been crank calling the suspect, an acquaintance from high school, multiple times for a while. 

Recently, the suspect responded to one of their calls by sending a photo of himself holding a gun and threatening to look for the victim. 

Brandishing a Weapon: 48th Avenue and Kirkham Street, Jan. 22, 6:40 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of an altercation between two subjects. The victim, who was walking his dog, reported that the suspect had suddenly emerged from behind several parked cars. 

The victim stated that the suspect was holding a stick in each hand. He raised one of them in a confrontational manner before lowering it, then walked up to the victim until he was almost nose-to-nose with the victim. The victim, feeling threatened, punched the suspect in response. 

The suspect then walked away from the victim. 

Responding officers located the suspect and after further investigation, the suspect was cited. 

Battery: Kirkham Street and 20th Avenue, Jan. 22, 5:09 p.m.

The victim arrived at Taraval Station to report a battery. The victim stated that she had been walking home when she walked past the suspect, her neighbor’s son, on the sidewalk. 

Without warning, the victim suddenly felt someone pushing her to the ground. She saw the suspect immediately run away from her. 

The victim stated that she had not had any incidents or issues with the suspect, but she said she did have a history of altercations with the suspect’s mother.  

Assault: 4100 Block of Noriega Street, Jan. 24, 8:24 p.m.

The victim stated that he had parked and exited his vehicle to visit a family member when the suspect approached him and argued about the parking space. 

The victim attempted to ignore the suspect and continued walking. The suspect then threw a plastic bottle at him and walked away from the victim. However, shortly afterwards, the suspect returned and hit the victim twice on each forearm with a wooden furniture leg. 

The suspect then fled the area.

Responding officers located the suspect and after further investigation, the suspect was arrested.

Shoplifting, Threats, Brandishing a Weapon: 3200 Block of 20th Avenue, Jan. 28, 6:57 p.m.

The victim, a store employee, reported that the suspect had walked up to the register and asked for a bag. The victim replied that he couldn’t give him a bag without a purchase being made. 

The suspect responded angrily and threatened to harm the victim before partially taking what looked like the bottom portion of a gun out of his pocket. The suspect then stole multiple items of merchandise as he walked out of the store. 

Brandishing a Weapon: 1800 Block of 23rd Avenue, Feb. 5, 1:30 p.m.

The victim arrived at Taraval Station to report a suspect who had brandished a gun at him. 

The victim stated that he had been parking his vehicle when he observed the suspect looking directly at him. The victim asked if the suspect needed more space to get his car out. The victim proceeded to give the suspect a little more space before finishing parking and exiting his vehicle. 

The next day, the victim received a parking ticket on his vehicle and confronted the suspect about it. The suspect responded by opening the front door while holding a firearm and waving it in the air.  

Robbery: 2100 Block of Taraval Street, Feb. 8, 6:45 p.m.

The victim, a store employee, stated that a suspect had entered the store and was observed removing an item of merchandise from a shelf and stealing it. The suspect then immediately fled and exited the store. 

The victim attempted to detain the first suspect but was prevented from doing so by a second suspect. However, the victim was successful in detaining the second suspect. 

Responding officers located a third suspect and after further investigation, the second and third suspects were both arrested. 

Assault with a Gun: 1600 Block of 45th Avenue, Feb. 13, 6:01 a.m.

Officers responded to a hospital regarding a shooting. 

The victim stated that he had been sitting in a vehicle when the suspect, his friend, had exited a house and approached him while accusing him of stealing. 

The suspect then fired a gun at the victim, which struck the victim’s hand.  

Robbery: 1200 Block of 19th Avenue, Feb. 22, 11:30 p.m.

The victim reported that he had been riding his electric bicycle when the suspect suddenly approached and pushed the victim. 

When the victim did not fall off the bicycle, the suspect brought out a knife and threatened the victim before stealing the bicycle and riding away on it.
