Be A Part of History!
In honor of their new discounted student membership (just $30 a year!) launching in 2021, Western Neighborhoods Project (WNP) and the Richmond Review / Sunset Beacon have teamed up for a contest.
WNP is a community history organization that has fun with the past. They record videos, podcasts, and lead walking tours throughout the west side. They also manage a large online archive of more than 50,000 historical images called OpenSFHistory.
If you’re a student under the age of 25 and currently enrolled in a San Francisco high school or college, we want you to find a photo on www.opensfhistory.org and tell us why it speaks to you. Send a short paragraph explaining why you connect with it, describing your personal history through the lens of this historic photograph, to Nicole Meldahl, Executive Director of Western Neighborhoods Project: nicole@outsidelands.org.
The best submission each month will be featured in the newspaper and will win a one-year membership to Western Neighborhoods Project, generously sponsored by the Richmond Review / Sunset Beacon. This membership gets you a quarterly membership magazine (digital), discounts on events and merchandise, and exclusive access to members-only happenings.
Here are some possible images if you want to include that too:
