Press Release: COVID-19 Update from Supervisor Gordon Mar

Press Release from Supervisor Gordon Mar, March 27, 2020

San Francisco and the Sunset are Stepping Forward

With all that’s going on across the country and across the world, it’s easy to lose sight of the work happening locally to bring people together and address this crisis.

The federal government finally approved their stimulus package today, and it’s an important and impactful step forward — and, it’s not enough.

Which is why we are hard at work every single day to fight for our neighbors, to fill in the gaps, pass first-in-the-nation polices, and to provide help, services, and resources in this unprecedented crisis.

We’ve been busy over the last ten days, and wanted to share some updates on our work, including:

I toured the Emergency Operations Center, the central command and coordination hub for our City’s rapidly evolving response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The breadth and depth of the City’s response is inspiring, and San Francisco is setting an example for the nation.

I’m grateful to Mayor London Breed, the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management and all City departments and employees for stepping up to confront the tremendous challenges facing our city.

I also visited Lincoln High and spoke with Principal Shari Balisi Manalang and Lincoln teachers on their work to develop distance learning strategies, and it was great to see how the school district is stepping up to respond to the needs of families during the Covid-19 crisis.

Starting Monday, March 30 and running through May 1, free grab and go meals will be available only on Mondays and Wednesdays between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. at these 16 sites, including Lincoln. SFUSD has reduced the number of days families have to leave their homes to get food, but the amount of food each family receives will remain the same. Also, parents no longer have to bring their children to pick up the meals.

And remember, we are here for you. Email us at marstaff@sfgov.org, call us at (415) 554-7460, or sign up for online office hours. In a time when public service has never been more important, we are here to serve you.
