Police Blotter – Sunset District

Arson: 1800 Block of 47th Avenue, Dec. 5, 11:37 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of an incident of arson. 

The witness reported that she had located a suspect who set a recycling bin on fire inside her neighbor’s alcove. SFFD and SFPD responded to the location. 

After further investigation, the suspect was arrested.

Arson: 27th Avenue and Lincoln Way, Dec. 5, 1:06 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire.  

Officers made contact with the suspect, who was standing next to the vehicle. The suspect admitted that he had set his vehicle on fire. 

After further investigation, the suspect was transported to a hospital for evaluation.   

Kidnapping, Robbery, Carjacking with a Gun: 1200 Block of 37th Avenue,  Dec. 6, 2 a.m.

The victim reported that his vehicle was stopped at a red light at 37th Avenue and Lincoln Way when the suspect suddenly entered the vehicle from the passenger side. 

The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and instructed him to drive towards the Westlake Shopping Center.

The suspect then demanded the victim’s cell phone and began to record video of the incident. Shortly after, the suspect then switched places with the victim and drove the vehicle to SFO where the suspect exited the vehicle and walked away. 

The victim reported that the suspect threw the gun out of the vehicle while they were on the freeway. 

Responding officers located the suspect and, after further investigation, the suspect was arrested. 

False Imprisonment, Assault with a Gun: 400 Block of Judah Street, Dec. 10, 1:12 a.m.

Officers were on patrol when they heard a cry for assistance. 

The victims reported that they had just met the suspect at a bar and had gone with him to his home afterwards.

At the home, the suspect offered the victims illegal drugs and then asked to have sex with them. The victims declined and the suspect angrily pointed a gun at them while preventing them from leaving. 

The victims convinced the suspect to put away the gun and they immediately fled.  

Possession of Air Gun: 1700 Block of Irving Street, Dec. 10, 7:59 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of a person with a gun. 

The witness reported that he  observed the handle of a gun sticking out of the suspect’s bag while the suspect was asleep on the sidewalk. 

Responding officers located the suspect and detained him. 

An investigation revealed that the gun was a realistic-looking BB gun. The suspect was cited.

Robbery: Noriega Street and 34th Avenue, Dec. 12, 11:55 a.m.

A victim arrived at Taraval Station to report a robbery. 

The victim stated that she had been walking when the suspect approached her and suddenly bumped into her before grabbing the cell phone she had been holding in her hand. 

The suspect immediately fled the area with the stolen phone. 

Attempted Robbery: 300 Block of Pacheco Street, Dec. 12, 7:30 p.m.

The victim reported to responding officers that he had been walking when he noticed the suspects walking towards him. When the suspects passed the victim, they suddenly grabbed his arms and slammed him onto the ground before demanding his backpack. 

The victim pointed his phone’s flashlight into the eyes of one of the suspects, which caused them to immediately flee. 

Assault, Suspended Driver’s License, Traffic Collision: 2100 Block of 48th Avenue, Dec. 12, 7:50 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a house. 

The witness stated that she had been in the vehicle with her friend, the victim, who was driving and the suspect, the victim’s husband. 

The witness reported that her friend and the suspect had an argument and the suspect punched the victim in her face while she was driving. 

The victim loss conciousness and the vehicle struck a nearby house. The suspect then fled the vehicle right after the incident. 

A computer check revealed that the victim’s license had been suspended and the victim was cited. 

Assault: West Portal Avenue and Ulloa Street, Dec. 13, 9:33 p.m.

A victim arrived at Taraval Station to report an attempted assault. 

The victim reported that he had been on a Muni streetcar when the suspect, who had been sitting near him, started yelling at him and then threw a shoe polish brush at him.

 The brush missed, but the victim felt threatened and exited the streetcar. 

Battery: 800 Block of Ulloa Street, Dec. 13, 8:44 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a battery at West Portal. 

The victims, Muni employees, reported that the suspect, who was acting erratically and being incoherent, had approached. 

The suspect then punched one of the victims multiple times. 

Responding officers detained the suspect. After further investigation, the suspect was cited.  

Vandalism: 2700 Block of 14th Avenue, Dec. 16, 10:13 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a person who had just broken a window. 

The victim reported that the suspect had parked a stolen vehicle in front of her house earlier and became angry when he returned and found that it had been towed away. 

The suspect took a nearby pot and threw it against the victim’s window, which caused the window to break. 

Officers located the suspect, who was hiding in a nearby backyard. 

After further investigation, the suspect was arrested.

Terrorist Threats: Vicente Street and Great Highway, Dec. 20, 9:38 a.m.

A victim reported to responding officers that he had been walking home and recognized the suspect, who was cooking food outside his van. 

The suspect became angry when the victim looked at him and grabbed a stick and threatened the victim. 

Officers located the suspect and, after further investigation, arrested him.  

Robbery: 3200 Block of 20th Avenue, Dec. 21, 12:21 p.m.

Officers responded to a report of a robbery. 

The victim, a store employee, stated that he had observed the suspect steal numerous items of merchandise before exiting the store. 

The victim attempted to chase after the suspect but the suspect used a Taser against the victim before dropping the merchandise and fleeing.
