Letter to the Editor: Support the Arts

Editor:

A thriving art culture enriches our lives every day.

We are seeking your support as this season of giving and gratitude begins. A presence in the San Francisco arts community for over a century, a historic nonprofit arts organization, San Francisco Women Artists (SFWA), believes in the creative and transformative power of art on culture, providing inspiration, insight and hope.

Once a thriving mecca for artists, affordable spaces in San Francisco for artists to work and to exhibit their art are disappearing. As one of the few community-based galleries remaining in the City, SFWA is in the fight against this trend. Committed to promoting equity in the arts for all people, mentoring aspiring young artists and engaging our community, SFWA with your continued support can stay in this fight and remain true to our mission.

Today, more than ever, societies are in need of the unique power of art to recreate unifying bonds among all people by interpreting, reflecting and celebrating the shared
human experience.

To support our 2019 Annual Fundraising Campaign and to meet our goal of $25,000, we are asking you to make an investment in SFWA, its mission and its legacy. With your support, we can extend our outreach programs, expand our student intern program and continue to host regular exhibitions/receptions showcasing the work of a
multitude of artists.

All of these help promote the shared, cultural relationship between artists and the public that SFWA strives to accomplish. We would be deeply appreciative to each and every one of you for your support. Your investment will enable SFWA to continue exhibiting and promoting artists’ works in our attractive and accessible gallery.

Again, thank you for supporting SFWA.

With Gratitude,

Pam Borrelli SFWA Board President sfwaartists@gmail.com

  1. SFWA could help the Inner Sunset by removing their plastic banners from our street poles!

They are visual clutter and distasteful!

    • Dear Harry – aka ‘George’… The talented local artists who created the Art Banners highlighting beautiful scenes would be very disappointed to learn of your negative comments – But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The good news for you is that the Art Banners will be removed very soon – perhaps you would consider making a small donation to help with the cost…? Many Thanks, SFWA
