Here are a few pictures from an incident on Parker Avenue that started about 8 a.m. on June 4 with the San Francisco Fire Department, Water Department and PG&E. It lasted until about 2:30 p.m.
The evening before, I saw wet pavement under a parked black car. My husband thought somebody washed their vehicle but the car was completely dry! Well, now we know why.
Apparently, the Water Department had used plastic connectors for many locations. Many were done a while ago; they may be starting to fail. Some people have the copper connectors but they cost more. This line had the plastic connector.
The pavement was buckling up about a foot and the asphalt was bubbling in a line farther north from the point of failure.
One location about 4 feet from the source was gurgling water up about 2 inches continuously.
I am hoping there will not be a rash of these citywide!
