Mar to Hold Public Safety Town Hall to Address Property Crimes

Supervisor Gordon Mar to hold public safety town hall to address home invasion robberies, burglaries, and package theft in the Sunset District

Supervisor Gordon Mar has heard concerns from Sunset District residents about several high-profile home invasion robberies and burglaries in the district and is responding by holding a town hall to engage the community in developing solutions. Many Chinese residents are concerned that they are being targeted and Supervisor Mar wants to engage the Chinese community to make the Sunset District safe and secure.

“At my April 25 hearing on home invasion robberies and burglaries, many in the Chinese community believe that they are being disproportionately  targeted as victims of these types of residential property crimes, and the anecdotal information compiled by my office supports this concern,” said Supervisor Mar. “Our town hall will have breakout discussion groups for the Chinese community, home invasion robberies and burglaries, businesses, and package theft to provide me input.”

“Package theft is also a growing problem in the neighborhood that is not currently being tracked by the San Francisco Police Department,” said Supervisor Mar. “I want working to explore policy options to prevent and deter package theft.”
