There will be numerous events in theOuter Richmond District in October, including
a benefit show for the historic Balboa Theater.
The theater has been struggling to survive in changing times. It has boosted attendance
through its popular “popcorn palace” movies on Saturday mornings, “The Beer Movie”
and the Balboa classic series, but it has not been enough to sustain operations.
The benefit event will be held at the Balboa Theater, located on Balboa Street near
37th Avenue, on Thursday, Oct. 19. For more information, go to the Facebook event page
at https://goo.gl/RcxMDn.
Other events, sponsored by the Balboa Village merchants, include:
• Oct. 26, there will be a Balboa Village merchants walk with AirBnB, SF Travel and the
SF Council of District Merchants, a “fun walk” to discover Balboa Village;
• Oct. 28, there will be a ‘Balbooa’ Halloween event with local students and merchants
trick-or-treating. Costumes are encouraged and there will be a scavenger hunt, games,
petting zoo and more;
• All month long Noise Records, located on Balboa Street at 36th Avenue, will have live
jazz music on Sundays, from 2-6 p.m.;
• On Wednesday nights there will be merchant specials, including $4 beers at
Simple Pleasures Cafe, trivia night at the Cafe Americana, and 50 percent off specials
at Cassava (wine) and Marla Bakery Restaurant.
