Golden Gate Park

Visions of transportation past

GGParkstreetcarEarly_wnp26temp.933 copy

This photograph, circa 1905, shows two forms of transportation no longer operating in Golden Gate Park, a streetcar and a horse-drawn surrey. The streetcar overpass is still located on John F. Kennedy Drive at the west end of park. This view is looking westward toward the Pacific Ocean. The streetcar is running on the #7 Haight-Ocean line, which was operated by
the Market Street Cable Railway Co. The SF Municipal Railway took over the streetcar line in 1916. Photo courtesy of private collector/Western Neighborhoods Project
