Model yachts will soon fill Spreckels Lake in Golden Gate Park, as the San Francisco Model Yacht Club’s (SFMYC) boating season opens in March and runs through October. A friendly team relay, “Rag Top/Stink Relay Regatta,” will be held on March 11, and will include boats from different squadrons.
The SFMYC is directed by Commodore Colleen Stobbe, Power Squadron officer Craig Carter and Sail Squadron officers Dave Misunas and Rich Styles. The club meets on the second Saturday of the month, at 11 a.m., in the clubhouse at 902 37th Ave.
Throughout the season, the model yacht club arranges and conducts sailing and power boating events on Spreckels Lake. There are local, national and international levels that bring model boat skippers from across North America to meet and test their skills.
The SFMYC has a complete 2017 schedule of events for radio-control and radio-control-free sail boats listed on its website at http://www.sfmyc.org.
