Richmond District residents, and sisters, Dr. Josephine LaVonne Lomba (left) and Melanie Lomba-Howard get a hug from Lou Holtz, the former coach of the Notre Dame football team, at a special awards ceremony in August. The sisters are now a part of the Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame Museum. Holtz honored the sisters with Lou Holtz Family Heritage Medals for their life-long work helping youth with disabilities in San Francisco and the Bay Area. The event, which also featured former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani, was held in East Liverpool, Ohio, the birthplace of Holtz, Lomba and Howard.
